Color Theory and Psychological Properties of the Colors.

We all know that color can affect us in ways that go far beyond regular color vision. According to the various researches, the color that surrounds us has a profound effect on our mood, heart rate, alertness, and behavior.
Almost every major food chain uses red color in their logo and design, to make us hungry and impulsive. By understanding color theory in interior design you can create just the right mood you are looking for.
RED
Red represents passion, courage, danger, power and temptation.
Exposure to this color has been proven to increase heart rate and stimulate metabolism. Red makes a person feel confident and powerful and has been linked with passion and love since time began. Beware that red color can also cause aggression and anxiety. Psychological studies suggest that red color strongly increased memory for negative words and actions. It’s best to use this color for accessories, but not as a wall color.

YELLOW
Yellow, the color of sunshine, joy, warmth, happiness and hope. This color triggers the analytical side of our brain but it looses touch with our creative side.

It is a color that inspires thought and logical thinking and helps us find new ways of doing things. Yellow color is recommended for kitchen, dining room and home office, but yellow color design is not recommended for bedrooms.
Yellow is a powerful color, but it is also the most dangerous and aggressive when you combine it with black or brown.

PINK
Pink is a delicate color, sweet, caring, kind, romantic and comforting. With pink the world is always look better.

The color pink gives the feeling that everything will go well, but too much pink color in interior can prevent seeing the negative aspects of reality, which can create weakness and can make you forget your responsibilities.
Pink brings soft and kind infusion of energy to any space. This color has a calming effect on our emotional energies and can relieve feeling of anger, aggression and stress.
PURPLE
Purple it’s a mixture of a hottest color and the coldest, it combines the stability of blue and the energy of red, and it has more energy than any other color. It symbolizes mystery, magic, power and luxury. Color Psychology says that it has calming effects over the mind and nerves, it can trigger creativity and imagination. You can always use purple color to create a luxurious and expensive environment to your home, but it’s not recommended for children’s playrooms and bedrooms.

ORANGE

Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It represents warms, fun, joy, optimism and happiness. In color therapy, orange is used to overcome abuse, shock, and depression. Orange increases oxygen supply to the brain and stimulates mental activity, but more arousing than concentrating. Series of studies have found, that the interior colors that have the worst effect on studying are red and orange.
One of the negative sides of this color that this color can be also toxic. In nature, orange it’s a warning color, is used by animals that have venom, spines or are toxic. Orange is sometimes used, as a color warning of possible danger or calling for caution. A skull against an orange background means a toxic substance or poison.



BLACK
Black is the color of night, the color of darkness and fear. The color that conceals all. But just as the color black can bring fear to most, it can provide security to others – particularly in terms of fashion. They can kind of fade into the shadows.

Black is the Feng Shui color of Force. It is the symbol of strength, knowledge and mystery. Chinese Feng Shui experts suggest to use black color for home design and decorating carefully, because dark tones can become the source of depression and bad mood. If you use it in a smart way, black gives an elegant and sophisticated air to interior design.
Being a neutral it can team up with any color, and can have a striking effect.

BLUE
The color of the sky and the ocean, blue is one of the most popular colors, and is associated with loyalty, open spaces, trust, freedom, confidence, imagination and inspiration. Blue encourages intellectual activity, reason, and logical thought. In the same evidence about raising blood pressure with red, blue is deemed to lower it. Strong blues stimulate clear thought and lighter, soft blues calm the mind and aid concentration.


It is used to design the interior space to enlarge the room by a very light shade of blue. It can also be used to cool a room with much sun and heat. Blue helps to slow human metabolism, is cooling in nature, and helps with balance and self-expression. This effect allows people to focus on personal tasks without distraction and to be more productive.
Blue is also an appetite suppressant. If used in kitchen: paint, furniture or dishes, blue color will decrease appetite and can help you to lose weight.
BROWN
Brown, the color of comfort, quality, security, friendship, stability, warmth, and honesty. Brown is the color of nature: earth, wood and stones, that can help us feel grounded and stable.
Brown affects the mind and body by creating feeling of peace, history and connection, as well as cozy feelings of relaxation and warmth, coffee and chocolate.

In Feng Shui, brown represents either wood if it’s dark or earth if it’s light. Though it has an energetic, nurturing quality, brown should be used sparingly in your decorating and be well balanced with other colors to avoid a lack of ambition and drive.

The color green has healing power and is the most restful and relaxing color for the human eye to view. Although it is the color of balance, it may have negative effects too, such as being too bland, bore, and demoralizing when incorrectly used.
GREY
Gray is a cool, neutral, and balanced color. Gray is associated with strength, exclusivity, fear of unknown and hiding. The color gray is a timeless and practical color that is often associated with loss or depression, it affects the mind and body by causing unsettling feelings. Grey is the only color that doesn’t have any positive psychological properties. Color Psychology says that it has calming effects over the mind and nerves, but over time this can be energy draining and straining.
