Orange Color Theory
How to use Color Psychology to Create an Emotionally Healthy Home

We often overlook using orange as we find it bright and too bold to use in our homes but if used wisely orange can look very active and interesting with many other different colors.
“Good design means choosing the right colors to go with your existing furnishing, and not buying everything new and throwing out all your applies possession.”
Anna Sotnik
As orange is the result of the combination of yellow and red, its effects in interior design is also a combination of the
two. Taking the stimulant influence of red and the optimism of yellow, it can be said that orange will create an
atmosphere of curiosity and restlessness.

It is a sacred color in many Eastern religions. Hindu and Buddhist monks wear orange robes, in Hinduism, orange represents fire and purity, in ancient China – in Feng Shui, orange is seen as a “yang” color which helps draw people together and encourages conversation.
In color therapy, orange is used to overcome abuse, shock, and depression.

Orange is sometimes used, as a color warning of possible danger or calling for caution. A skull against an orange background means a toxic substance or poison.
Orange increases oxygen supply to the brain and stimulates mental activity, but more arousing than concentrating. Series of studies have found, that the interior colors that have the worst effect on studying are red and orange.

Avoid orange in any room where you need intense focus and concentration.
Orange color can cause sleep disturbances. It’s a great color for vases, pillows, art, small accessories for the kitchen and living room, but not so good for bedrooms where we want to relax and calm down.
Orange is, in other words, best in small doses.
